Mapping FreedomBy Alfred Goh
Kickstarting our creative process with conversation, we learnt about colourful nuggets about his life. This acrylic map of Lengkok Bahru, which is an actual to-scale representation of the area, is a piece marked by effervescent conversation, a practice in patience and is a visual tapestry of Alfred’s freedom. It is accompanied by photos of key settings of his favourite stories, including a fish store, a rambutan tree and lift landing where he witnessed an elderly suicide. “Be good and don’t make trouble outside,” he said. “That’s how you can earn your freedom.”
